Philosophy, Ethics and Practice  |  Understanding Yourself  • The Path of Svadhyay  (=Self Study)

Yoga is based on a healthy philosophy and a profound psychology. The essential core of yoga is not only the alignment of body and mind, but also the development of soul and spirit. The whole spectrum of yoga consists of two aspects: theory and practice. Both are equally important in achieving the ultimate goal of yoga – to reach the tranquility of mind (Nirodha).to reach. However, philosophy without practical implementation is only theory.

It adds a deeper meaning to yoga and helps to put what you have learned into practice. The path of yoga begins when you put an intention into practice. And this intention should be nothing but Nirodha (resting in your Inner Self)

To reach the state of Nirodha is not easy to get because there is a lower nature, expressed in the Kleshas (avidya | asmita | raga | dvesha | abhinivesha… (Ignorance, identification with the I, desire, hate, fear of death).

For this weekend our focus will be Svadhyaya, to understand how the Kleshas are manifesting in our lifes.

We will do exercises and also we will use a variety of exercises for our self-awareness to explore our habits, feelings and thought processes, with the aim of achieving a greater awareness of our inner “movements”.

Asanas, pranayama, svadhyaya (self-study) and meditation are the essential tools within this process of our personal development.

We will study to see how the Kleshas are deeply manifested in ourselves, in thinking, behaving, acting and reacting.

Always focussing in the special part of understanding the real purpose of the yoga practise. Which should be the recognition and transformation of our lower nature for approaching Nirodha (Inner peace).

This workshop is also an opportunity to practice Ashtanga in a traditional way (depending on who is attending Class on Sunday maybe Mysore Style, which means an individual practice without guidance, but guded through individual corrections by your teacher. This way of teaching and practicing allows all people, regardless of their physical conditions and pace, to practice side by side) How e will practice in the morning classes is depending on the student, maybe saturday Led, Sunday half Led, half Mysore)

This evening involves a gentle arrival. A flowing asana series (Vinyasa System) with meditative intro and conclusion prepare the Svadhyaya.

Saturday, 16. November 2019  •  09.30 – 12.30 Uhr
āāyāma – Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga (Led Class)
This morning the focus will be on asana practice (based on the vinyasa principle that movement is connected to breathing) with forward and backward bends, twists, balance postures, reversal postures to your
adapted to personal physical circumstances.

Saturday, 16. November 2019  •  14.30 – 17.00 Uhr
Prāāyāma – Suadyaya – Meditation
On this afternoon exercises for our self-confidence are in the foreground. Through breathing exercises, philosophical questions and suggestions as well as meditation practices we become more aware of our self (svatma).

Sunday, 17. November 2019   •  09.30 – 12.30 Uhr
Prāāyāma, Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga (depending on group… Mysore Style)
Here, too, asana practice is in harmony with the breath in the foreground, so that everyone practices in his own rhythm and adapts the practice to his needs and to his study of self-confidence.

Ashtanga Yoga Workshop with Rolf + Marci Naujokat from Goa

I am overwhelmed and very grateful that Marci and Rolf, my teachers and dear friend from Goa, are coming to Cologne. Rolf was here in 2006/2007/2008, now he comes back after all these years, together with Marci!

Rolf Naujokat began his yoga studies in North India in 1975 with Japa Kriya, traditional Hatha Yoga and Pranayama. He was certified to teach the Ashtanga Yoga system by his Guru, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, in 1996 and practiced the fourth series. Beginning in 1990, he studied in Mysore for 3-6 months of every year for 16 years.

Marci Naujokat began practicing Yoga in 1990, studying intensively under Rolf Naujokat, Maty Ezraty, Chuck Miller and Senior Iyengar teacher, Gabriella Giubilaro. Her teaching integrates the Ashtanga system with specific opening techniques to gently and effectively release habitual patterns and tension held in the mind-body system. This process is rooted in non-aggression and compassion towards Self and allows insight into deeper and often inaccessible areas of the body. For those with injuries or physical limitations, she adapts the practice to their individual needs.


It is a very rare occasion. There is the possibility to book two single parts, or complete. If there is space in the afternoon, Marcis classes can also be booked seperately. They are open for everyone, for the Mysore classes you should know Ashtanga primary Series to Navasana min.
